I am usually loathe to read any book suggested by a friend, as I have my own tastes in literature, but I did read Forgiving Ararat because it was strongly suggested by a friend.Too, I am a Baha'i and have my own ideas of spirituality and was hesitant to visit another's take on the hereafter. I was, however, glad I did. I could not out the book down and was intrigued by the author's concept about justice and the purpose of life--even the perspective on the Ten Commandments. Though not an easy read, the book was profoundly enbriching and should be a must for every spiritual quest. The above review, by the way, really encompasses the essence and the importance of the book.

I especially agree with your view on Nazareth's take on religion.
I have just written a review and mentioned how Nazareth mocks religion as an intellectual. Though mocking may seem a harsh word to place on the issue of religion, but when one takes a step back, one shall see the benevolence of discussing all religions in one space. And it's exactly such benevolence that allows readers to adopt each perspectives on each religion, and by doing so, was already against the teachings of some religion.
Highly thought-provoking and an intelligent read. I'm glad to see so many readers who share the same feelings.

I agree with this review. The imagery of Forgiving Ararat is amazing and really helps to visualize the afterlife. For example, Ms. Nazareth's description of the four seasons occurring simultaneously in Nana’s backyard is very moving and picturesque while the descriptions of the dead people arriving at Shemaya Station as they looked when taking their last breath are chilling and poetic. In the end, Forgiving Ararat is realistic fiction that make you reexamine your conscience.
