Ermm I just visited Ketut today with my husband and our lil boy. Can't say I was v impressed. Apart from heaping praises of our outward beauty (exaggerated I must say) , he didn't really tell us anything. I've read other blogs and those bloggers told of similar (if not same) phrases Ketut used on them! "lips as sweet as sugar", "live till 100 Years old" etc. After waiting hours to see him, we went away v disappointed. Rp500,000 could hv been better spent!

Great questions! Our experience has been that though Ketut can give a very generic palm reading, he personalizes every one to some extent. I think it's more a case of his English not being that great, but perhaps his age is a factor. The last time we were there, Ketut had just had gallstones removed, and he was very sprightly. Plus we went in the morning, not the afternoon (as we had done previously). He read people's spines, palms, eyes, faces, and legs! So it was much more than I have seen before. Enjoy Ketut for his charming personality. his wonderful Balinese environment. and his real-life embodiment of Liz's words. It's never a good idea to set too much store by any fortune teller, as your future is not determined so long as you exercise your free will. Blessings to you :-) Halle

I am in the middle of reading the Eat, Pray, Love and quite want to meet Ketut Liyer already having read how he predicted the money going and coming back instantly for Elizabeth.

I have looked up a couple of blogs and they seem to say that he is, now, giving out the same reading to everyone without any personal insights. Is this true? Does he choose who to give in-depth readings to or does his age not allow him to give accurate, individual readings based on that persons palm lines?

Hi, Lora - it all depends on your budget. A $25 room will not be very clean sometimes, and not at all up to American hotel standards. It may have a shared bathroom and will have no AC in a climate that is always hot and humid. We usually stay at either the Alila or Maya hotels, which are both lovely and include breakfast. For something more budget-minded, consider Murni's Warung, which is excellent if you are going by yourself. Tell them Spirit Quest Tours sent you!

I am planning a trip to Bali, Ubud and I would love to meet Ketut as well. I found all the informotaion here very helpful. Could anyone help me finding a nice place to stay? I am a bit confused, I see there a rooms for $25.00 a night and up to $400.00 a night.

If you visit Bali - and you should - you can try asking your guide to take you to Ketut, who lives outside Ubud. Or, you could join us on our next Bali tour, which is June, 2011!

Hi,
I returned from Ubud 2 days ago and had the pleasure of meeting Ketut Liyer at his home. By the way he does have an address and phone number as he gave me his card as I left and asked me to send him a copy of the photos we took whilst with him which I shall do in the next couple of days. Address: Pengosekan - Mas, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia, Telephone 0361 974092. On the back of his card there is a map to get to his home but you may find it easier to find him as we did i.e. our resort had a tourist office and they contacted him for us and spoke to him on our behalf. Directions were given to our driver who found the place with a little difficulty. Communicating was also difficult even for the local tour guide so I think trying to contact him direct without being able to speak the language would be near impossible.
My time with Ketut was amazingly special, my only regret is that I had not read Elizabeth Gilbert's book, Eat Pray Love but when I return to Bali hopefully in the not too distant future, I am sure I will have many more questions for him. He is a very special man, with a beautiful smile, and very youthful skin. His wicked sense of humour remains with me and I often find myself smiling at some of the things he said. When my daughter and I visited we were fortunate in that we were the only ones there at the time apart from our driver and translator. We left him with the most incredible feeling of inner peace.
